RY GUY (V.E.M.C)

-Ry Guy is the founder of the Victoria Electronic Music Collective (V.E.M.C). With 15+ years of playing radio shows, clubs, parties and after hours gigs alongside Victoria’s biggest names he has quickly become a staple In the Victoria house music scene. He has always had a long lived passion for the underground music scene. Playing a bit of everything over the years has had lot of influence in his sound today, everything from electro house to break beats, be ready for a musical journey full of huge rolling bass lines guaranteed to get your feet moving.

TecStyleZ (Party People Sound Solutions)

– The man they call TecStyleZ has a rather ridiculously large and diverse collection of music at his disposal and the ability to play to just about any crowd. The love of music comes through in his sets and mixes. His initial forays into DJ culture were in the mid to late ’90s. You could find him spinning hip hop, down-tempo, dancehall reggae and dub. Then at the tail end of the ’90s, his passion for dancehall spawned his undying love for jungle and drum and bass, which he’s still known to throw down and mash up the dance from time to time. Since moving to Vancouver Island he has performed at Tall Tree Music Festival, Victoria Ska & Reggae Festival, Otherworld and Soundwave. These you can find him playing those funky, soulful, greasy,dance-floor bumpin sounds! Get out your comfortable shoes! Have a good stretch! And be prepared to shake what yo mama gave ya!

JVDED

– Previously a member of Screen_Name and folk rock band the Symphony Tree, Jade Eyeland now uses those varied influences to inform their selections and get even the most jaded of ravers groovin’ on the dancefloor with a mixture of classics and obscure internet gems. Jade has brought their mixture of meticulous research and improvisational fever dream to the dancefloors of DIY events, Kink and LGBTQ2AI events, festivals and night clubs throughout Canada. Jade has supported artists such as Whipped Cream, G Jones, and skii tour. Previously a member of Screen_Name and folk rock band the Symphony Tree, Jade now uses those varied influences to inform their selections and get even the most jaded of ravers groovin’ on the dancefloor.

Don’t want to haul the holy water and good books to Otherworld with you? Bring your champagne and smut to us! We are accepting early donations for the collection plate for Stripper Church!

Welcome home sinners, come repent with us!

We would like to gratefully acknowledge that the territory on which this event takes place is on the traditional, stolen, unceded land of the Lekwungen and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples. We acknowledge the rich cultural history of the many peoples and rituals that have been affected by the ongoing process of dispossession and colonialism. We hold this understanding in our interactions and engagements with this land and its people.

The Victoria Event Centre (VEC) is a non-profit organization (Victoria Multi-Cultual Society) that operates a multi-purpose rental venue for non-profits, arts groups, cultural communities and everyone in between.

At the VEC there is zero tolerance for any type of racist, sexist, ableist, fatphobic, transphobic or homophobic behaviour. If you feel uncomfortable at any time please take care of yourself and/or find one of our community support folks to help out.

VEC Accessibility:

There are three multi-user, gender-inclusive bathrooms with stalls. One bathroom has a larger stall with its own sink and a grab bar (more details in the ‘Bathrooms’ section).

The Victoria Event Centre currently does not have an operational elevator, and there is one long flight of stairs at the venue entrance. The only way into the VEC is up 27 wood stairs, 11″ deep, 6″ high. There are wooden 2.5” handrails 38” up the wall on each side of the staircase (54” apart, so not graspable on both sides at once). See further details in ‘Getting Inside’ section)

If you would like to attend the event but require assistance with accessing the space, please contact us at events@victoriaeventcentre.ca and VEC staff will do their best to accommodate.

Inside the Victoria Event Centre there is a gender inclusive wheelchair accessible washroom that technically fits necessary size dimensions, but is missing a bar and a handrail beside the toilet. There are two stalls, in the washroom, but only one of these has been renovated to meet 5’x5′ wheelchair clearance.
