WORKSHOP: Moving to the Beat! With Hazel Nuez

Do you struggle with keeping time with the music in your choreography? Are you wanting to learn how to count music? Learning to count music is one of the many foundations needed for dance. Counting music helps with choreography, keeping time and memorizing . Join me , Hazel Nuez , for this 5 week workshop where we will learn how to recognize a basic 8 count in a musical phrase and how to choreograph with intention.

**FEE: $60 for 5 week session. $15 drop in
****
Learn Exactly what an ” 8 count ” of music means and be able to recognize it in most mainstream music today !
We will just be touching the surface of the basics of counting musical phrases.

The purpose of this workshop series is to be able to plan and execute choreography according to your music and be able to count effectively.

Each week we will learn some simple exercises to help you learn to count on your own , and some simple choreography that will emphasize moving to the beat.

The choreography will be light , easy to follow , feel good, sensual movement. Come prepared to move but not sweat.
Wear something comfortable that you can move in.
This class will be very music based.

This class is perfect for absolute beginners with no music experience, beginner dancers who need help counting, or just for people who want practice!

By the end of this 5 week workshop you will be able to count yourself into a musical phrase and recognize a basic 8 count in a musical phrase

A little bit about myself…
I have been dancing jazz and contemporary since the age of five and currently teach Latin and ballroom dance since 2018. I have performed all over Victoria for most of my life, and while doing so, I have discovered my love for burlesque and striptease about 2 years ago. I loved the way it made me love my body and boost my confidence. I have been on a mission to spread that joy to other people ever since!

These workshops will take place on the unceded land of the Lekwungen people.

I enthusiastically welcome (but not limited to): POC’s, LGBTQ2S+ and non-binary folx.

ACCESSIBILITY: unfortunately Amethyst is not wheelchair accessible. The studio is down a flight of stairs and down a corridor, with steps leading into the studio. I apologize for the lack of acsessbility at this new location. I am going to work hard to try and find an accessible location in the future. The washroom is gender neutral. The studio is a scent free space. The music will operate through the studios portable speaker ( one speaker) which I will attach to my iPod . I will have control over the sound level, but the room has great acoustics! The lights are fairly bright but are able to be dimmed down or up.

If you have any other questions please let me know 🙂
