With 15+ years of playing radio shows\, clubs\, parties and after hours gigs alongside Victoria’s biggest names he has quickly become a staple In the Victoria house music scene. He has always had a long lived passion for the underground music scene. Playing a bit of everything over the years has had lot of influence in his sound today\, everything from electro house to break beats\, be ready for a musical journey full of huge rolling bass lines guaranteed to get your feet moving. \n• \nTecStyleZ (Party People Sound Solutions) \n– The man they call TecStyleZ has a rather ridiculously large and diverse collection of music at his disposal and the ability to play to just about any crowd. The love of music comes through in his sets and mixes. His initial forays into DJ culture were in the mid to late ’90s. You could find him spinning hip hop\, down-tempo\, dancehall reggae and dub. Then at the tail end of the ’90s\, his passion for dancehall spawned his undying love for jungle and drum and bass\, which he’s still known to throw down and mash up the dance from time to time. Since moving to Vancouver Island he has performed at Tall Tree Music Festival\, Victoria Ska & Reggae Festival\, Otherworld and Soundwave. These you can find him playing those funky\, soulful\, greasy\,dance-floor bumpin sounds! Get out your comfortable shoes! Have a good stretch! And be prepared to shake what yo mama gave ya! \n• \nJVDED \n– Previously a member of Screen_Name and folk rock band the Symphony Tree\, Jade Eyeland now uses those varied influences to inform their selections and get even the most jaded of ravers groovin’ on the dancefloor with a mixture of classics and obscure internet gems. Jade has brought their mixture of meticulous research and improvisational fever dream to the dancefloors of DIY events\, Kink and LGBTQ2AI events\, festivals and night clubs throughout Canada. Jade has supported artists such as Whipped Cream\, G Jones\, and skii tour. Previously a member of Screen_Name and folk rock band the Symphony Tree\, Jade now uses those varied influences to inform their selections and get even the most jaded of ravers groovin’ on the dancefloor. \n• \nDon’t want to haul the holy water and good books to Otherworld with you? Bring your champagne and smut to us! We are accepting early donations for the collection plate for Stripper Church! \nWelcome home sinners\, come repent with us! \n• \nWe would like to gratefully acknowledge that the territory on which this event takes place is on the traditional\, stolen\, unceded land of the Lekwungen and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples. We acknowledge the rich cultural history of the many peoples and rituals that have been affected by the ongoing process of dispossession and colonialism. We hold this understanding in our interactions and engagements with this land and its people. \n• \nThe Victoria Event Centre (VEC) is a non-profit organization (Victoria Multi-Cultual Society) that operates a multi-purpose rental venue for non-profits\, arts groups\, cultural communities and everyone in between. \nAt the VEC there is zero tolerance for any type of racist\, sexist\, ableist\, fatphobic\, transphobic or homophobic behaviour. If you feel uncomfortable at any time please take care of yourself and/or find one of our community support folks to help out. \n• \nVEC Accessibility: \nThere are three multi-user\, gender-inclusive bathrooms with stalls. One bathroom has a larger stall with its own sink and a grab bar (more details in the ‘Bathrooms’ section). \nThe Victoria Event Centre currently does not have an operational elevator\, and there is one long flight of stairs at the venue entrance. The only way into the VEC is up 27 wood stairs\, 11″ deep\, 6″ high. There are wooden 2.5” handrails 38” up the wall on each side of the staircase (54” apart\, so not graspable on both sides at once). See further details in ‘Getting Inside’ section) \nIf you would like to attend the event but require assistance with accessing the space\, please contact us at events@victoriaeventcentre.ca and VEC staff will do their best to accommodate. \nInside the Victoria Event Centre there is a gender inclusive wheelchair accessible washroom that technically fits necessary size dimensions\, but is missing a bar and a handrail beside the toilet. Ends at 9:00/9:15pm \n******************************************************\nDoubtful there will be tickets left at the door\, so get them in advance friends! \nReally want to come\, but truly can’t afford it? Message us about a work-trade or donated ticket. There are lots of options! \n******************************************************\nTicket Options: \n1. Regular seated tickets – $22 \n2. Table with chairs for 4 people – $120 ($30 per person) \n3. Financially assisted tickets – pay what you can; please email us \n******************************************************\nContent warning: Our shows in general explore heavy topics like misogyny and rape culture. This isn’t one of our heavy shows per se\, but we empower people to take care of themselves by not attending if they feel like it will be too much or if they are easily offended. \nWe acknowledge with great respect the Lkwungen-speaking peoples on whose traditional territory this event is being held\, and the Songhees\, Esquimalt and WSÁNEĆ peoples whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day.\n****************************************************** \nAccessibility: https://victoriaeventcentre.ca/attendees/accessibility/ \nWe hire an ASL interpreter for all our shows. \nWe encourage people to avoid wearing/using scented products\, including essential oils or other natural scents\, however we cannot guarantee that the venue will be scent-free. \nHot food\, non-alcoholic options\, and beer/cider available for purchase (cash or credit card\, ATM also available). Free tap water available.\nNeed a sober buddy? Email us!\nNeed a free meal ticket? Email us! \nGender neutral bathrooms. \nPriority seating available for those who need it. \nFAQs \nI heard this is your last show – is that true? \nWell… we don’t have any shows planned after this one\, so it’s probably the last one for at least a while. Our beloved Socrates is opening up a gay pub downtown (“The Vicious Poodle” – so exciting!) so our focus will be on that for a while. \nWhyyy would you host an event at the VEC – they have a long flight of stairs?!?!? \nThere are a lot of different barriers to accessibility\, and finances are a MAJOR one for us. Because we want to continue to offer an unlimited number of financially assisted tickets and pay our performers properly\, pay an ASL interpreter\, pay our Consent Captain\, buy local\, etc. – we have to utilize venues that are financially feasible for us otherwise we simply can’t afford to put on more shows. The VEC is very supportive of the arts\, and offers a very generous discounted rate. Plus they are an amazing team to work with\, and a non-profit who is trying their very best. The VEC is working hard fundraising to have a new elevator installed\, and we are hoping it’s up and running by the time our show happens. https://victoriaeventcentre.ca/attendees/accessibility/ \nAre there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? \n19+ event\, ID required at the door. \nHow can I contact the organizer with any questions? \nReach out to us via email: riotgrrrlsburlesquerevue@gmail.com \nWhat’s the refund policy? \nNo refunds unfortunately. You’re more than welcome to sell your ticket though! They will just have to let the door person know the name the ticket was originally purchased under.

SUMMARY:WORKSHOP: Sewing Basics for Performers
DESCRIPTION:This workshop takes place on the unceded territories of the Lekwungen-speaking peoples. This includes the Songhees\, Esquimalt and WSÁNEĆ nations. It means a great deal to me to live\, perform\, and share knowledge on these territories\, and to grapple with what it means to be an uninvited ‘guest’. Colonialism permeates our culture\, including white queer culture. Including drag. Including burlesque. We need to repair this and promote healing. I believe that art and performance can be ways to work towards that\, to ensure true liberation for all of us.\n———- \nSign up on FACEBOOK \nAre you a drag or burlesque performer wanting to step up your ~lewks~? \nHave you tried sewing but patterns seem like they’re written in ancient Greek? \nAre you able to put together a costume\, but don’t always understand how you got from point A to point B? \nThis 3-hour workshop will cover:\n> > > planning a garment\n> > > taking measurements\n> > > looking expensive when you’re broke\n> > > buying the right fabric to set yourself up for success\n> > > understanding the language of patterns\n> > > prepping your pattern and fabric for sewing\n> > > basics of operating a sewing machine\nYou do not need to bring anything\, BUT if you have a costume you’re working on\, a pattern you’re trying to decipher\, or even an inspiration picture you want to recreate\, please bring it! We will be spending the last hour workshopping and troubleshooting projects together to put our new knowledge into practice. \nEach class capped at 7 people to ensure that there is some one-on-one consultation time for each person. \n***NEW DATES***\nSunday Sept 29th from 3pm-6pm\nMonday Sept 30th from 6pm-9pm \n$40 e-transfer to hannahrhoslyn@gmail.com to reserve your spot! If I know you primarily by a stage name\, please include that in the e-transfer message. \n**Accessibility**\n*2 pay-what-you-can spots will be available for each workshop. To access these\, send me a message with the amount you are able to pay\, no questions asked. I’m a drag queen\, I know we’re all broke ????\n*The location is my home\, near the intersection of Fort and Vancouver. My apartment is up a flight of approximately 25 curved stairs with a waist-height bannister. If there is interest in a session that is more physically accessible\, I will schedule another at UVic or the downtown library.\n*My home is not scent-free but I won’t use any scents in the 24 hours leading up to the event.\n*There will be a variety of seating available\, including a couch\, padded bench\, stools\, and an office chair. There are many lamps and curtains over the windows\, so the lighting is fairly adjustable. It can get warm in my house during daylight hours\, so wear some cool layers underneath!\n*If you have other accessibility questions or concerns\, please message me or post it on the event discussion! \nAbout Me\nMany of you might know me by my drag name\, Kim Union. I have been performing for a year and a half\, but I actually began as an outlet for sewing and costume design. I’m mostly self-taught\, and have studied fashion illustration\, patterning\, and sewing for over 15 years. I also design and lead workshops in my day-job at UVic\, with 10 years of experience.\nTo see some of my work\, just have a look at the event banner photo! Also check out my Instagram\, @holykimunion\nI’m so excited to bring these skills together to share knowledge with our community 🙂 \nThis workshop is the first in a series. Other topics planned are Costume Sewing Techniques (including finishing and closures) and Costume Design: Practical Fashion Illustration and Pattern Alteration. Other workshops may be added based on interest! If folks have things they want to learn\, let me know 🙂 \nBanner photo credits\, left to right: MKM Photography\, Liquid Cherry Photography\, Sortome Photography (Lau Ren)\, Tee Elle\, Sortome Photography

Her intricate pasties\, headpieces\, hair flowers\, and the embellishing work she creates on clients’ costumes are now worn by performers all over the world! The online shop also carries over 50 colours of flatback rhinestones in various shapes and sizes for the “sparkle-it-yourselfers”. \nVogue also loves sharing her passion for rhinestoning and embellishing costumes by teaching her class “Rhinestone 101” \nIG: @showgirl.sparkle\nwww.showgirlsparkle.com \n……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….\nI acknowledge and thank the Lkwungen People\, also known as the Songhees\, Esquimalt\, and Beecher Bay First Nations communities\, for allowing me to live\, work and play on their lands. Thank you to the ancestors\, supernatural ones\, hereditary leaders and matriarchs\, creatures big and small for looking after the rich resources and cultural teachings of this beautiful land.\n~borrowed from the Indigenous Perspectives Society\, who are far more eloquent than I could ever be.
