DESCRIPTION:If you want a short term burlesque skills commitment that will help give you some foundational skills to feel grounded\, create more body awareness\, and incorporate slower styles into your performance\, this lyrical burlesque series is for you. \nThroughout these 4 weeks we will go through how to incorporate Lyrical style movement into your burlesque performances. This series is targeted toward existing solo burlesque performers\, but is also open to those who want to explore this style as well. \nThis class is great for learning how to be present and grounded while on stage\, and creating awareness within your body. \n***Please note that I am still currently on sabbatical from Passion and Performance dance studio due to a heavy course load. Learn how you can use these exercises effectively to create stage presence and connection with your audience. \nWeek 3:\nCreating intensity\nLearn how to feel comfortable using the stage effectively\, how to move across the stage and how to keep your audience engaged. This class will focus on how to create impactful pieces for your audience without trauma dumping in your acts. \nWeek 4:\nSensual lyrical burlesque\nHow to create burlesque routines that can be both intense\, emotional and sensual and how to use lyrical movement to create different moods in your routines\nWhat you need to know: \n*Each class will involve a warm up and cool down. It is imperative that you are here to participate in both of these aspects of the class in order to prevent injury. \n*Once you have made your deposit\, I will be sending you a liability waiver that must be signed prior to being in class. \n*For this series specifically\, dancing in bare feet is fine\, or you can purchase jazz shoes or soft ballet shoes from Toes ‘n taps. Knee pads may be necessary for some classes \nAbout me:\nI have a long history of dance experience and technical training (over 15 years)\, including competitive tap dancing\, completion of up to Grade 5 ballet\, and lyrical jazz. DESCRIPTION:Do you struggle with keeping time with the music in your choreography? Are you wanting to learn how to count music? Learning to count music is one of the many foundations needed for dance. Counting music helps with choreography\, keeping time and memorizing . Join me \, Hazel Nuez \, for this 5 week workshop where we will learn how to recognize a basic 8 count in a musical phrase and how to choreograph with intention. \n**** \nRegister today! Come prepared to move but not sweat.\nWear something comfortable that you can move in.\nThis class will be very music based. \nThis class is perfect for absolute beginners with no music experience\, beginner dancers who need help counting\, or just for people who want practice! \nBy the end of this 5 week workshop you will be able to count yourself into a musical phrase and recognize a basic 8 count in a musical phrase \nA little bit about myself…\nI have been dancing jazz and contemporary since the age of five and currently teach Latin and ballroom dance since 2018. I have performed all over Victoria for most of my life\, and while doing so\, I have discovered my love for burlesque and striptease about 2 years ago. I loved the way it made me love my body and boost my confidence. I have been on a mission to spread that joy to other people ever since! \nThese workshops will take place on the unceded land of the Lekwungen people. \nI enthusiastically welcome (but not limited to): POC’s\, LGBTQ2S+ and non-binary folx. \nACCESSIBILITY: unfortunately Amethyst is not wheelchair accessible. The studio is down a flight of stairs and down a corridor\, with steps leading into the studio. I apologize for the lack of acsessbility at this new location. I am going to work hard to try and find an accessible location in the future. The washroom is gender neutral.The studio is a scent free space. The music will operate through the studios portable speaker ( one speaker) which I will attach to my iPod . I will have control over the sound level\, but the room has great acoustics! GREAT QUESTION!!! \nNow is the perfect time to join as we are entering the New Year and really moving forward with this amazing performance momentum we’ve developed in 2019! \nThere is an annual $20.00 membership fee and includes the following perks of joining! \n*COMMUNITY ~ We are a dance family. Of course you are family without even joining but it feels really good to have your name officially recorded in the family book! \nGROUP DANCES ~ Choreographed by the one and only Chai Tease only collective members are able to partake in the group performances. This class will go over multiple ways to get down to and get up off of the floor that will leave you feeling graceful and confident.\n***This class requires knee pads. Modifications can be made for those with knee injuries*** \nWeek 4:\nSensuality in burlesque\nThis class will go over ways to incorporate sensuality into your routines\, and incorporate floorwork. Learn how to fake flexibility and other illusions! Bring knee pads! \nWeek 5:\nTension and release\nIn this class we’ll cover how to use pauses effectively\, how to create anticipation and tease in your routine\, and how to use a few extra seconds to bring your routines from good to phenomenal. Prepare to feel vulnerable in the best of ways. \nWeek 6:\nPosture and body awareness in burlesque\nLearn how to hold your body in your movement to convey strength\, power and confidence and get the amazing photos you want on stage. We’ll go over the ways to carry yourself that will allow you to embody the stage presence that wows your audience. \nWeek 7:\nNeo/Classic burlesque\nFor those who have seen me perform\, you know that I love to play with and blend both of these styles. In this class we’ll cover some effective exercises to fuse together the best elements of both classic and neo burlesque and go over some of my favourite movements. \nWeek 8:\nPut a bow on it!\nLet’s tie together all of the things you’ve learned over the past 7 weeks and celebrate! \n***Notes***\nPlease advise me of any injuries to be aware of before class so I am able to plan accordingly and modify movements as required. \nProper footwear is required for this class – this can be character shoes or jazz shoes. \nIf you arrive late to class\, you must warm yourself up to minimize chances of injuries. Cool downs are equally important to stay in class for as it will prevent you from injuring yourself after class.

Now that Isle of Tease has wrapped\, I can announce that i’m going to be offering this crafty\, hands-on\, beginner pastie-making class to a limited number of participants on Sunday\, December 15th\, in the Glanford area. \nTo register\, please etransfer to sparkle@showgirlsparkle.com\, including the name I might know you by! \nYou know what makes an awesome holiday gift? Sparkly nipples!! \nThe class fee will be $50.00\, and will include everything you need to design and make a pair of basic tasselled pasties in your choice of size and colour. \nI’d like to focus on basic round pasties for this class\, as we made a variety of shapes and styles the first time around and ran out of tassel-making time. \nI will also include fun paints and up to 2 gross of rhinestones per participant in your choice of size and colour to embellish your designs with\, and if you want additional stones to really oomph up your design\, they will be available for purchase. \nIf you could bring your own scissors\, hot glue gun\, and e6000 fabrifuse\, that would be super\, otherwise we can share. \nYou will leave with an awesome pair of your own pasties! \nIf financial barriers prevent you from attending\, please reach out and we will get you a spot. \nClass is open to anyone interested\, but won’t be suitable for little ones. \nWill also organize ride-sharing once we know who is attending. \nMy bona fides…\nVogue Mahone\, proprietor of Showgirl Sparkle\, has long been enamoured of all things glamorous\, opulent\, and colourful. \nWith a background in art\, graphic design\, and crafts\, Vogue became a burlesque performer in Victoria BC in 2016\, and soon fell in love with the costumes\, culture\, history and traditions of burlesque. \nHer shop\, Showgirl Sparkle\, launched in January of 2017\, and she has handcrafted hundreds of pairs of pasties since!. Her intricate pasties\, headpieces\, hair flowers\, and the embellishing work she creates on clients’ costumes are now worn by performers all over the world!
