DESCRIPTION:Burlesque Extravaganza | A Fundraiser For The VEC\nSunday\, November 14th | Doors: 6PM | Show: 7PM\n19+ | ID Required \nFEATURING: Rosie Bitts\, Misty Moss\, Cinnamon Kicks\, Luna Yen\, Ruby Purrl and MANY MORE! \n\nThe VEC is a non-profit\, multipurpose venue for the arts\, celebration and community. Opening the doors in 2003\, the VEC has become a favourite venue for emerging artists\, performers and organizers. Appreciated for its versatility and affordability\, the VEC has been home to countless shows that have brought theatre\, comedy\, burlesque\, cultural performance\, fundraisers\, and live music to the diversity of visitors who find their way into the venue. It is a space that strives for inclusion and the opportunity for creative expression through our city’s local arts\, performance and cultural organizations. The VEC has seen surges of hope and moments of despair throughout its life. The current pandemic has put strains on all businesses\, not the least of which are those in the hospitality industry. The VEC has been impacted enormously\, as measures have cancelled shows\, closed the venue a handful of times and their revenues have been drastically cut and completely eliminated at times. The Canadian Independent Venue Coalition warns that as many as 90% of all Canadian venues could permanently close as a result of the pandemic and the VEC is doing their best to be one of the few venues that weather the storm. It is our hope that through creative fundraising and the generosity of people such as yourselves\, we can help cover their operating costs\, pay their staff and performers\, and to keep the lights on. \nIn the event that public health restrictions prevent this event from going ahead\, all tickets purchased for this event will automatically be valid for the next rescheduled date. This class will focus on how to create impactful pieces for your audience without trauma dumping in your acts. \nWeek 4:\nSensual lyrical burlesque\nHow to create burlesque routines that can be both intense\, emotional and sensual and how to use lyrical movement to create different moods in your routines\nWhat you need to know: \n*Each class will involve a warm up and cool down. It is imperative that you are here to participate in both of these aspects of the class in order to prevent injury. \n*Once you have made your deposit\, I will be sending you a liability waiver that must be signed prior to being in class. \n*For this series specifically\, dancing in bare feet is fine\, or you can purchase jazz shoes or soft ballet shoes from Toes ‘n taps. Knee pads may be necessary for some classes \nAbout me:\nI have a long history of dance experience and technical training (over 15 years)\, including competitive tap dancing\, completion of up to Grade 5 ballet\, and lyrical jazz. Learning to count music is one of the many foundations needed for dance. Counting music helps with choreography\, keeping time and memorizing . Join me \, Hazel Nuez \, for this 5 week workshop where we will learn how to recognize a basic 8 count in a musical phrase and how to choreograph with intention. \n**** \nRegister today! I have performed all over Victoria for most of my life\, and while doing so\, I have discovered my love for burlesque and striptease about 2 years ago. I loved the way it made me love my body and boost my confidence. I have been on a mission to spread that joy to other people ever since! \nThese workshops will take place on the unceded land of the Lekwungen people. \nI enthusiastically welcome (but not limited to): POC’s\, LGBTQ2S+ and non-binary folx. \nACCESSIBILITY: unfortunately Amethyst is not wheelchair accessible. The studio is down a flight of stairs and down a corridor\, with steps leading into the studio. I apologize for the lack of acsessbility at this new location. I am going to work hard to try and find an accessible location in the future. The washroom is gender neutral.The studio is a scent free space. The music will operate through the studios portable speaker ( one speaker) which I will attach to my iPod . I will have control over the sound level\, but the room has great acoustics!
