It is a space that strives for inclusion and the opportunity for creative expression through our city’s local arts\, performance and cultural organizations. The VEC has seen surges of hope and moments of despair throughout its life. The current pandemic has put strains on all businesses\, not the least of which are those in the hospitality industry. The VEC has been impacted enormously\, as measures have cancelled shows\, closed the venue a handful of times and their revenues have been drastically cut and completely eliminated at times. The Canadian Independent Venue Coalition warns that as many as 90% of all Canadian venues could permanently close as a result of the pandemic and the VEC is doing their best to be one of the few venues that weather the storm.
